Several years ago, I began visiting a dermatologist for regular checks. Most of the time, everything is fine. Occasionally, there's something small that needs to be removed. But this time, the irregularity was more serious and required surgical excision.

As the doctor and I chatted during the procedure, we quickly discovered we were both from the Chicago area—sharing stories of our Midwestern roots and love for the city.

Then she asked what I do for a living. I paused and smiled.

“It’s just like your job,” I said.

“My team and I perform regular, detailed Home Watch visits. We carefully examine every property for anything that’s even the slightest bit irregular. If we find something out of sorts, we take action—before it becomes something worse.”

She paused, nodded, and smiled.

“I know exactly what you do,” she said.

And then she asked for business cards—wanting to share my services with her friends and patients.
